Live Blues in July and August

Do you want to see live blues music in Boise? Here’s a loooooong list of what’s coming up in July and August. Enjoy!

Friday July 3, Scott Wallenberg & friends bring you a JJ Cale Tribute show, 7PM at Pizzalchik (State & Glenwood, Boise).

Saturday July 4, Smooth Avenue plays funky blues, Motown, and light rock dance music at Sandbar/Riverside hotel, Garden City, 6-9pm.

Saturday July 11, 2-10pm, hang onto your hats, folks. The Blues & Bones Blues Festival at Crooked Flats Winery in Eagle will feature Shane Dwight, Jeramy Norris & the Dangerous Mood, Blues Addicts, and the Bastard Sons of Peter Green. BBS members, watch your email for a discount code you can use to get $5 off tickets.

Sundays July 12 and August 9, BBS hosts our open Blues Jam Session from 3-6pm at The Drink Waterfront Bar & Grill. This blues-only jam happens every second Sunday of the month. Musicians are invited to bring an instrument and join us on stage. Blues lovers, come and catch local musicians while enjoying food, drinks, a great view, and a community atmosphere. Sunday July 12, Moss Roses perform 4-7pm at Sawtooth Winery. Featuring BBS Board members Barbara Laing and Ev Hadden, this duo delivers a lot of laughs, sultry vocals, and upbeat blues/soul/traditional music.

Saturday July 18, Smooth Avenue plays funky blues, Motown, and light rock dance music at Sandbar/Riverside hotel, Garden City, 6-9pm.

Sunday July 19, Boise Blues Society is proud to bring you the Boise Blues Festival, noon-6pm at Julia Davis park. This year the festival will feature Matthew Curry, Ben Rice Trio, and local bands Hoochie Coochie Men and Freudian Slip. Families welcome. Admission: 3 cans of food for the Idaho FoodBank.

Weds July 29, see Ken and Carmel at Bar365 in the Riverside Hotel, 5-8pm.

Thursday July 30, Moss Roses perform bluesed-up favorites and upbeat originals from 6-9pm at Sandbar.

Thursday July 30, don’t miss Ana Popovic’s first ever Boise area performance at the Sapphire Room. Serbian-born and 5x Blues Music Awards nominee, Popovic is widely regarded as one of the world’s top female guitar-players. She blends smoking electric funk slide guitar, jazzy instrumentals, and a tight blues groove with soulful feminine vocals and a powerful stage presence. If you like Lisa Mann then you will LOVE the vocals and guitar playing of Ana and her band. Tickets:

Friday August 1, The Blind Mice play Americana/blues/rock 9pm-midnight at O’Michael’s.

Sunday August 2, Moss Roses perform bluesed-up favorites and upbeat originals from 4-7pm at Sawtooth Winery.

Monday August 3, Ken and Carmel perform at the Sandbar, 5-8pm.

Wednesday August 5, Ken and Carmel rock Sofia’s Greek Bistro, Glenwood and State, 6-9pm.

Friday August 7, Smooth Avenue plays 8-11pm at Crush wine bar in Eagle.

Sunday August 9, 1pm, catch the Blues Addicts at St. Chapelle Winery in Caldwell.

Tuesday August 11, local band the Blues Addicts will open for Robert Cray, 7pm at the Egyptian Theater.

Friday August 14, our own BBS Blues Directors, a high-energy blues band featuring members of the Boise Blues Society’s Board of Directors, will perform traditional and original blues at the Blues on the Banks festival in Caldwell, 6-7:30pm.

Friday August 14, catch Jake Leg, a traditional Chicago-style blues band, at the Blues on the Banks festival in Caldwell.

August 14-16, experience three days full of live blues music right on the Greenbelt during the Sandbar’s first “Blues on the Belt” mini-festival! The schedule so far:

Monday August 17, the boys are back in town! Mississippi Marshall and the Juke Daddys return to the Sapphire Room for an evening of “sho nuff get yo Monday blues on” boogie woogie. Jody Smith and Dayle May both will be back for this so get your tickets early. Radio Boise 89.9 FM will be broadcasting live on the Blues Block, and the show will be recorded for a “Juke Daddys LIVE @ The Sapphire Room” CD.

Thursday August 20, Ken Harris and Rico Weisman at Bella Aquila in Eagle from 6-8 pm.

Monday August 24, Moss Roses perform 6-9pm at Sandbar.

Thursday August 27, 6pm, Blues Addicts perform at Idaho Botanical Garden. Tickets:
