Boise Blues Society is proud to present one of the finest blues harp players in the world today, RJ Mischo, on Saturday, October 21st, 7:30pm. Our own Hoochie Coochie Men will be backing RJ for this show so you know its going to be a fun, rockin’ good time in the Sapphire!
Mischo loves traveling and playing with local musicians. Playing with different musicians instead of a band of his own is improvisation in its best form, he says. The Hoochie Coochie men have been together for a few decades as well and have improvised with RJ before, so look for the sparks to fly again when hit the stage together on Oct. 21st. Put on your dancing shoes and join us.
Boise Blues Society celebrates 25 years of bringing the blues to Boise and Treasure Valley with the release of a new CD compilation, “Blues Gems from the Gem State”. The album features 18 tracks, one each by a different Treasure Valley blues band or artist. It’s produced by BBS co-founder and KRBX Radio Boise Juke Joint host Norman Davis.
All the artists donated their music to the fundraising project. Proceeds from the album go to support the non-profit work of Boise Blues Society, including its popular Blues in the Schools program, which is offered free-of-charge to area schools to promote and educate about the blues, and youth scholarship program which offers financial support for young musicians to further their music education.
DID YOU KNOW? Boise Blues Society (BBS) is a non-profit organization with a mission of promoting blues music through a wonderful program called Blues In the Schools (BITS).
Its part of a nationwide program involving dozens of blues societies and is especially important now because funding for music programs in public schools seem to be a priority target for budget cuts.
We’ve also presented BBS Student Scholarships to several outstanding young musicians in the Treasure Valley.
If you’re a member of BBS, thank you. If you’re not, please join us and help support our cause. . Contact BBS President Ken Harris at email@example.com or 208-440-4590. For more info: http://boiseblues.org/education/blues-schools-bits/
We’ve just created a new YouTube Channel! Live music from local shows by BBS member bands, concert excerpts from touring blues musicians presented by BBS in the greater Boise area, and lots of other fine blues videos gleaned from YouTube and other websites. Check it out below, because there’s never too much blues music!!
Boise Blues Society has received a $1000 grant from the City of Boise, Arts & History Department to support our Blues in the Schools (BITS) program. Contributions like this help us reach out to students in the Boise area.
Part of our mission to “promote and preserve blues music” includes providing musicians as coaches and performers to introduce blues music to children and adults alike. BITS, which began in 2006, is part of our outreach effort and is provided at no cost to participating schools. Through BITS, Boise Blues Society brings a taste of blues music, and the lessons that go with it, into schools.
Spreading knowledge and appreciation of blues music throughout Southern Idaho.
